In an interview with Ecuador’s newspaper El Universo, Mr. Pompeo said the US requested Britain for the extradition of Julian Assange, who exiled for 7 years in the Ecuador embassy and was granted Ecuador citizenship.

Mr. Pompeo visited Ecuador as part of his trip to some Latin American countries. Earlier, former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa said his country was aware that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was interfering into the 2016 US presidential election from the safety of Ecuador's embassy in London, where he lived under political asylum until this year.
