(VOVWORLD) - World Health Organization officials voiced concern on Tuesday about the possible collapse of hospital service in the southern Gaza Strip as fighting between Hamas and the IDF escalates around Khan Younis city. Medical staff and patients are having to evacuate to save their lives.

At an online press briefing from Geneva, Sean Casey, WHO emergency medical team coordinator in Gaza, highlighted the dire situation in Gazan hospitals.

Hostilities continue very close to the European hospital in Khan Younis, said Casey, adding that 600 patients had to be relocated.

The Health Authority in Gaza announced Tuesday that 23,210 Palestinians have been killed and 59,167 injured by Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, when Hamas launched a surprise attack on nearby Israeli settlements.
