(VOVworld) – The 2015 whale worshiping festival opened in Thanh Khe district, Da Nang city, to show local people’s gratitude to the sea and pray for favorable weather and luck in the new fishing season.
The festival started with an important ritual to welcome the Whale, followed by prayers for the fishermen's safety. Mr. Tran Dinh Chien, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thanh Khe district, Da Nang city, said: “The Whale worshiping festival in Thanh Khe is held annually on the 16th of the first lunar month, when the fishermen start the new fishing season. The festival aims to promote the traditional cultural values and encourage the working spirit of the fishermen”.
Numerous sports activities are also included in the program, including tug of war and sea football.
