(VOVWORLD) - The Vu A Dinh scholarship fund has provided nearly 90,000 scholarships worth tens of millions of USD over the past 2 decades, according to a meeting on Monday between Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and managers of the fund to mark its 22nd anniversary.

The scholarship benefits not only poor students from ethnic minority groups, but also Vietnamese students in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Cuba.

In 2014, the ‘For beloved Hoang Sa – Truong Sa’ club was established under the fund to support soldiers, families of policy beneficiaries, and children of fishermen and fisheries surveillance.

“The Fund has contributed to promoting education as well as national defense. Vietnam’s target of becoming a high-income country by 2045 cannot be reached if the children in the mountainous and disadvantaged areas cannot have access to education,” said Prime Minister Phuc.

The Vu A Dinh scholarship fund is named after a H’Mong ethnic minority boy who laid down his life during the resistance war against the French colonialists.
