(VOVWORLD) - Escalating violence in Africa, particularly across the Kordofan region (Sudan) and Ituri province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), continues to disrupt humanitarian operations and drive new waves of displacement.

Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, on Tuesday called for "an immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians”. He stressed the need for rapid, safe, sustained humanitarian access, so aid can reach those in need.

UN humanitarians in Sudan reported a drone attack on Tuesday in El Obeid, Sudan which allegedly claimed the lives of 13 civilians, including children.

Meanwhile, in Ituri province in eastern DRC, local authorities reported that at least 25 civilians have been killed and more than 40 injured in repeated conflicts over the last month.

In total, between October 25th, 2025 and January 4th, 2026, some 68,000 individuals were displaced from multiple locations across these regions, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
