VNPT has to date been the only telecoms network provider licensed to commercially test and licensed to use 5G bands in Vietnam’s two largest cities. 5G technology is bringing about important changes in all aspects of social life and creating an important foundation for building a digital government in Vietnam. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam said Vietnam’s three key telecoms and IT firms - Viettel, Mobifone, and Vinaphone - have made Vietnam among the world’s leading countries in rolling out 5G.

Vinaphone told Tuoitrenews late last month that its 5G network allows users to access a Wi-Fi connection with a maximum speed of 2.2Gbps, about 10 times faster than its current 4G network.

Earlier, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said Vietnam aimed to roll out the 5G network more widely next year through producing 5G devices with good quality and reasonable prices. Developing a 5G network would be one of the key directions on improving the capacity of digital infrastructure for national digital transformation.
