Vegetable production nationwide is estimated at 23-24 million tons, with around 1-1.3 million tons designated for processing.

Under the project, safe and concentrated vegetable growing areas with clear origin will be developed to meet domestic and export demand, contributing to national food security, safety, and hygiene, and improving community health.

By 2030, the national vegetable cultivation is projected to cover some 1.2-1.3 million hectares, of which, around 360,000-400,000 ha will be dedicated to  safe and concentrated vegetable production and 50,000-60,000 for processed vegetables, including various types of tomato, cucumber, chili, potatoes, and leafy greens.

Provinces and centrally-run cities must attract investments in the field of agriculture and step up the formation of integrated production chains for vegetables, from cultivation zones to processing and consumption.

For the domestic market, the focus will be on assisting enterprises, cooperatives, and households in building brand identities for safe vegetables, which involves linking these brands with cultivation zone codes and geographical indications. Distribution channels for safe vegetables will be diversified by establishing trading platforms, supply-demand connectivity, exhibitions, and trade promotion activities.

For exports, the strategy will be maintaining existing markets while expanding into new ones. Negotiation to eliminate trade barriers is crucial to make it easier for Vietnamese vegetables to enter the global market.
