During their brief meeting on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday, the two leaders agreed to expedite the signing of a reciprocal trade agreement grounded in fairness and equality, while encouraging greater US investment in Vietnam.

President Trump took note of Vietnam’s proposals on recognizing its market economy status and removing the country from the US’s D1 and D3 strategic export control lists. He instructed senior officials, including the Treasury Secretary and the US Trade Representative, to provide early feedback on these issues.

Prime Minister Chinh expressed Vietnam’s appreciation for President Trump’s diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue and peaceful resolution of global conflicts.

Though brief, the meeting reflected mutual understanding and respect, and a shared determination to deepen the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a substantive and effective manner.
