Mr Phuc told a conference of the General Statistics Office (GSO) in Hanoi on Monday that Vietnam’s GPD actually grew more than the reported 6.81% last year when taking the informal sector into full account. He appreciated the GSO’s quarterly reports along with analysis on subjective and objective causes for the growth rate at different periods of time.

GSO Director General Nguyen Bich Lam reported that the agency conducted one general economic census and 28 other surveys on a smaller scale in 2017. The general economic census for the first time collected data on the subcontracting operations of enterprises and foreign non-governmental organizations operating in Vietnam.
