LOTUSat‑1 is expected to be completed in March, said Le Xuan Huy, deputy general director of the Vietnam National Space Center, which is in charge of satellite as part of its Natural Disaster and Climate Change Prevention project.

The 600‑kilogram satellite will have an image resolution of one meter. It will gather information about storms and other phenomena that affect Vietnam every year.

Fabrication of the satellite, which uses Japan's official development assistance (ODA) and Vietnam's counterpart capital, began in September 2012 at the Vietnam National Space Center, which is in the Hoa Lac Hi‑Tech Park in Hanoi.
