Vietnam's field hospital and sappers prepared to join UN missions

(VOVWORLD) - Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, on Monday inspected the preparation for Level-2 Field Hospital and sappers to take on duties at the UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and Abyei.

Engineering Unit Rotation 3, consisting of 180 officers, is scheduled to depart for the United Nations peacekeeping missions in the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) on September 24, taking off from Noi Bai airport.

The same day, 63 officers of Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 6 will also depart for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan on a C-17 aircraft supported by Australia, departing from Noi Bai airport.

According to Major General Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Department for Peacekeeping Operations, the training has been completed on schedule in compliance with the UN's standards and requirements.

In the remaining time before departure, the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations will organize additional training to enhance the capacity and expertise of Engineering Unit Rotation 3, tailored to the specific requirements of the mission area, he said.
