According to Nguyen Cong Hoang, Deputy Director of the National Radiotherapy Center and head of Chest Radiology at the National Cancer Hospital (K Hospital), of the three main methods of cancer treatment - radiotherapy, surgery, and medicine, radiotherapy plays the most important role. 60-70 percent of all cancer patients require radiation therapy. Vietnam's leading cancer treatment facilities continually updated their equipment and apply new techniques to improve the effectiveness of radiotherapy.

According to statistics from the World Health Organization, in 2018 the proportion of Vietnamese people with cancer was 151.4 per 100,000 people, ranking 99th out of 185 countries and territories, 19th in Asia and 15th in Southeast Asia.
