Vietnam is the 5th country most affected by climate change and the Mekong River Delta, including Can Tho city, is said to be one of the world’s 3 most vulnerable deltas. Internal difficulties and external problems have hampered local efforts to develop its economy.
Dao Anh Dung, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City, said: “Can Tho and other Mekong Delta provinces should accelerate their climate change resilience strategies including water resource management to ensure sufficient supplies for domestic use and production, and job generation, and support disadvantaged people to build houses. It’s necessary to improve agricultural and industrial production while increasing the ratio of services in the economic structure.”
