The painting, deemed an exceptional work, was sold after a long bidding battle, Aguttes announced this week.

"Young Girl With Peonies" is a silk painting estimated to be done in the 1940 - 1945 period, an important time in Le Pho's life as he honed his talent at the Vietnam University of Fine Arts and was endlessly inspired by flowers.

This is the second record set by a Le Pho painting. In May 2019, his "Nue" (Nude) painting fetched 1.4 million USD, the highest auction price ever for a Vietnamese painting, at Christie’s Hong Kong auction house.
