Vietnamese leaders meet United Russia party Chairman Medvedev

(VOVWORLD) - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong held talks on Monday with Dmitry Medvedev, Chairman of the United Russia party and Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, who is on a visit to Vietnam under a cooperation agreement between the two parties.

Mr. Trong highly valued the achievements Russia has gained under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin and the United Russia party.

The two sides discussed ways to promote relations between the two parties and states including strengthening mutual understanding and political trust, expanding cooperation in economics, investment, science and technology, culture, education and other areas.

They issued a joint statement on enhancing cooperation to promote peace and security, safeguard and strengthen principles of international law and the UN Charter, and boost bilateral ties.       

Before the talks, the United Russia party delegation laid a wreath at a monument dedicated to martyrs and visited President HCM’s Mausoleum.

Meeting Mr. Medvedev the same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reiterated Vietnam’s external policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, diversification and multilateralization of relations, active international integration and being a friend, a reliable partner, and an active and responsible member of the international community.

He said Vietnam always treasures the Russian people’s past and present support as well as the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia.

Mr. Medvedev noted that Vietnam is one of Russia’s important partners in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in Southeast Asia, and Russia wants to further develop bilateral cooperation.
