(VOVworld) – Historian Le Thanh Khoi and Vietnamese studies researcher Philippe Langlet have each received the Phan Chau Trinh award, which honors outstanding scholars in education, cultural research, Vietnamese studies, and translation. The awards were presented ahead of schedule by former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh, who chairs the Phan Chau Trinh Culture Foundation, on the occasion of her visit to France to attend the 40th celebration of the Paris Peace Accord. Binh said: The Board of Science of the Phan Chau Trinh Culture Foundation, including social scientists, writers, and researchers, meet every year to select outstanding candidates of the award. The foundation was founded in 2007 and is presenting awards for the 6th time this year. We appreciate the efforts of professors Khoi and Langlet in researching and introducing Vietnamese culture to international friends.

90-year-old professor Khoi has conducted many studies on Vietnamese history which are considered a base for the research of others. Professor Langlet has translated several Vietnamese literary works into French including several Buddhist poems. On receiving the award, Langlet said: I’m grateful to the foundation. I’m happy to see the Vietnam-France friendship flourish. It is my honor to have researched Vietnam’s culture and history in cooperation with local institutes over the years. I hope I will be able to complete my halfdone work, contributing to closer Vietnam-France relations.
