During a phone conversation General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba consented to effectively implement cooperation agreements in agriculture and health, and strengthen coordination and mutual support at international forums. The Cuban leader said he wants Vietnamese businesses to increase investment in Cuba, especially in food production, consumer goods, wholesale and retail.

Party leader Trong said that Vietnam always pays attention to and shares the difficulties faced by the Cuban Party, State and people. He added that Vietnam stands side by side with the Cuban people in their just revolutionary cause and opposes embargo against Cuba. Mr. Trong affirmed that Vietnam continues to deliver on its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralization of relations.

Mr. Díaz-Canel informed of the situation in Latin America and Cuba, difficulties and challenges that Cuba faces due to the world economic crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, conflicts in Europe, the effects of embargoes, and sabotage actions. He affirmed that Cuba is standing firm and continuing measures such as diversifying economic sectors, attracting foreign investment, developing the service sector for recovery and growth, overcome the energy crisis, and strive to ensure the people’s livelihood.
