At a United Nations General Assembly session on Thursday, the Vietnamese representative reaffirmed Vietnam's position that the only sustainable way for peace in the Middle East is to implement the two-State solution, in which the establishment of the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital and peaceful coexistence with the State of Israel, with internationally recognized borders on the basis of pre-1967 borders and negotiated agreements, in accordance with international law, the UN Charter, and relevant UN resolutions.

The Gaza Strip in the past 11 days was engulfed in flames from air strikes and rocket attacks as fighting between Israel and Hamas sparked fear of an all-out war. This military clash, the most intense since the 2014 war between Israel and Palestine in the Gaza Strip, stems from the Israeli government’s eviction of Palestinian families from East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah area.

The UN Security Council convened three emergency sessions, at which UN chief Antonio Guterres and other world leaders strongly condemned attacks on civilians and called on Israel and Palestine to exercise restraint and avoid escalation.
