Vietnam stands ready to work together with the US to put in place detailed plans under high-level agreements and the joint statement on the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, Mr. Khai said at a reception for US Ambassador Marc E. Knapper in Hanoi on Wednesday.
The Deputy PM said his hopes that the US will further support ASEAN’s centrality and contribute more to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and beyond.
For the recognition of Vietnam as a market economy, Mr. Khai asked the ambassador to help with accelerating the process, saying he expects it will be completed within this year.
Ambassador Knapper said the US wishes to cooperate closely with Vietnam to fulfill the promise to the people of the two countries, which is to further strengthen bilateral ties and the comprehensive strategic partnership and beyond.
He reiterated the US’s commitment to assisting Vietnam in semiconductors, noting that US firms want to invest in Vietnam, but they need a legal environment, easier access to clean, reliable energy sources, information technology infrastructure provided by reliable suppliers, and high-tech workforce.
Mr. Knapper said that the US Chamber of Commerce is considering the recognition of Vietnam's market economy and the work is expected to be done in June.
