Mr. Dung talked over the phone on Tuesday with Kurt Campbell, Deputy Assistant to the US President and Coordinator for Indo-Pacific Affairs, and Daniel Kritenbrink, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, at the request of the US side.

Deputy Minister Dung praised the US’s commitment to increasing budget for overcoming the aftermath of war and setting up a CDC office in Hanoi as well as the US’s multiple projects in Vietnam. He expressed his hope that the US will continue to help Vietnam in education, training, health care, humanitarian issues, digital economy, and climate change.

The two US officials said that the US respects its comprehensive partnership with Vietnam and wants to upgrade bilateral ties to a higher level. They promised to continue to cooperate to support developing countries including Vietnam in coping with climate change.

Mr. Dung also asked the US to strengthen comprehensive, sustainable, and inclusive cooperation with the region and support ASEAN’s internal unity and centrality and further promote the ASEAN-US strategic partnership and the Mekong-US Partnership.

The two sides discussed regional and global issues including the East Sea issue and agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation within the UN and other multilateral forums.
