(VOVworld) - More than 100 Vietnamese athletes will participate in the 2013 Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China from August 16-24. They will compete in 14 out of the total 17 events including track-and-field, swimming, table-tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting, male soccer, handball, shooting, badminton, golf, fencing and judo.

Vietnam’s participation at this event aims to prepare for the 2014 Youth Olympics, especially for the 18th ASIAD in 2019. It is also an opportunity for Vietnamese sports managers and trainers to learn training programs for young athletes of other countries and find the most effective solutions to be applied in Vietnam.

The Asian Youth Games is held every four years for Asian athletes aged from 14 to 17. In the first games, Vietnam had only 28 athletes and was placed 14th with two silver medals.
