This is part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s safety inspection program for fish and catfish exports to the US, which began on Friday.
“Catfish producers, processors and exporters are requested to ensure their products are free from microorganism and antibiotic residues. The farming environment and fingerlings must also be tightly controlled. Substandard products will cause losses to enterprises and damage our reputation,” Nguyen Nhu Tiep, Deputy Director of the Agro, Forestry and Fisheries Quality Management Department, explained.
As from last Friday, all Vietnamese catfish including pangasius are scrutinized by the US Department of Agriculture, whose inspectors will check on all stages of the production chain in Vietnam.
