Vietnam takes citizen protection measure after ship collision off Japan

(VOVWORLD) -The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan swiftly took measures to protect citizens after it confirmed a news report that 5 Vietnamese were among the 13 missing crew when their ship collided with a fishing boat off Japan's northeastern prefecture of Aomori late Saturday.

One rescued Vietnamese crew member named Nguyen Van Hai from Hai Phong city is now being taken care in a hospital and in relatively stable health condition. Guo Xing 1, the cargo ship with 14 crew onboard, sank 20 minutes after it suffered a collision on Saturday evening. The 13 missing crew included 7 Chinese, 5 Vietnamese, and 1 Filipino. Search and rescue efforts are underway.
