Vietnam supports non-proliferation of nuclear weapons towards nuclear disarmament

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam pursues a consistent policy of supporting the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, moving toward complete nuclear disarmament.

Ambassador Nguyen Trung Kien, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) made the statement at the regular meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors in Vienna on Monday.

Ambassador Kien said Vietnam supports the IAEA’s role and technical cooperation programs, particularly those between Vietnam and the IAEA, such as the ZODIAC program, and the trilateral projects of Vietnam, Laos, and the IAEA and Vietnam, Cambodia and the IAEA.

He urged the IAEA to continue its technical cooperation with Vietnam.

The 5-day meeting, which will run through Friday, convenes the 35 members of the IAEA board, a number of other member countries, and international organizations with observer status.  

Vietnam was elected to the IAEA Board of Governors in September, 2021, for the 2021-2023 term.
