Vietnam sets sights on 40-50 golds at ASEAN Para Games

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam aims to win between 40 and 50 gold medals at the 13th ASEAN Para Games, to be held in Thailand from January 15 to 27 next year. A send-off ceremony for the Vietnamese delegation took place in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday. The team includes 141 athletes who will compete in 11 sports, such as athletics, badminton, table tennis, chess, and judo.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh stressed that the Party and the State always create opportunities for people with disabilities to fully realize their potential and contribute to social development, including in sports.

He called on the delegation to compete with the highest determination, while engaging in exchange activities to help spread Vietnam’s cultural values, promote the image of a friendly, sincere, and peace-loving nation, and contribute to strengthening friendship and solidarity.

ASEAN Para Games 13 brings together athletes from all 11 Southeast Asian countries. It is the region’s largest sporting event for persons with disabilities, featuring 19 sports and more than 500 events.
