Reporters were briefed about the first Vietnam Semiconductor Industry Exhibition (SEMIExpo Vietnam 2024) to open in Hanoi early next month.

Christoph Prommersberger, Deputy Head of Mission at the Dutch Embassy in Vietnam, said Vietnam is on the verge of participating more deeply in the semiconductor industry and aspires to be an important link in the global semiconductor supply chain. He said the Netherlands is in the forefront of the global semiconductor industry and we see a big potential in Vietnam as well.

“We are committed to continuing our cooperation with Vietnam in this important field. That's why we're happy to support Vietnam as we believe that this partnership can open up new opportunities for both countries and also for the industry globally. And we are committed to working together with our Vietnamese and international partners to support the development of an ecosystem in Vietnam,” Christoph noted.

Linda Tan, President of the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) in Southeast Asia, said Vietnam is an emerging country in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Companies have begun moving to countries like Vietnam to diversify supply chains and find more abundant human resources after the COVID-19 pandemic amid geopolitical complications.

Tan said SEMI is committed to supporting Vietnam in promoting the Vietnam Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy until 2030 with a vision to 2050, especially in the development of human resources.

“We are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals, true comprehensive programs that range from rising STEM awareness to upskilling and reskilling the workforce, to support Vietnam in building a workforce ready talent pool for its rapid economic growth. SEMI will continue to support Vietnam's ambitions in expanding its footprint in the semiconductor landscape through our global programs,” according to Linda Tan.

Vietnam intends to train 50,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030.
