Vietnam, Saudi Arabia strengthen ties to bridge ASEAN and the GCC

(VOVWORLD) - The Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Vietnam has hosted a reception in Hanoi to mark the kingdom’s 95th National Day, commemorating its unification and foundation on September 23, 1932 under King Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Rahman Al-Saud.

Attending the event, Saudi Ambassador Mohammed Ismaeil A. Dahlwy and Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang praised the deepening ties between Saudi Arabia and Vietnam, underscoring the two countries’ growing role in bridging the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Ambassador Dahlwy highlighted Saudi Arabia’s remarkable progress in economy, investment, and community development under Vision 2030.

Vietnam–Saudi Arabia relations have advanced comprehensively in recent years through more frequent delegation exchanges and productive working sessions, said the Ambassador. These efforts have reinforced friendship and cooperation across multiple fields, particularly trade, investment, and people-to-people exchange while boosting connectivity between ASEAN and the GCC.

Saudi Arabia is now one of Vietnam’s top economic partners in the Middle East, with bilateral trade rising 53%, from 2 billion USD in 2021 to 3 billion USD in 2024. Tourism is emerging as a promising new area of collaboration.

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang congratulated the Saudi people on their 95th National Day. She described Vision 2030 as bold and ambitious, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s determination and foresight in opening new horizons for development, innovation, and prosperity.

Hang said Saudi Arabia is Vietnam's important partner and a good friend who shares mutual respect, common interests, and vast cooperation potential. She said Vietnam and Saudi Arabia are well positioned to bridge ASEAN and the GCC, fostering stronger regional links, boosting economic exchange, and contributing to peace and prosperity across Asia and the Middle East.

Themed “Our Pride is in Our Nature”, this year’s celebration highlighted the Kingdom’s cultural values, heritage, and aspirations under the framework of Vision 2030.
