Vietnam, Russia vow stronger maritime cooperation

(VOVWORLD) - General Secretary To Lam has proposed that the Russian Maritime Board promote cooperation with Vietnam in maritime policy research, marine and ocean sciences, infrastructure development, maritime transport routes, logistics systems, and human resource training.

Speaking at a meeting with Aide to the President of Russia and Chairman of the Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev in Hanoi on Tuesday, Party General Secretary To Lam called for Russian assistance in sustainable and effective management and use of marine space, in line with each country’s interests, for peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.

He also urged Russia to support Vietnam’s and ASEAN’s positions on the East Sea, in compliance with international law, especially the 1982 UNCLOS.

Patrushev reiterated that Vietnam is one of Russia’s key partners in the Asia–Pacific region and expressed readiness to work closely with Vietnam to develop international shipping routes, using Vietnam’s deep-water ports as global logistics hubs.

On this occasion, he presented General Secretary To Lam with the “For Cooperation in the Maritime Field” medal.

At a meeting with Mr. Patrushev the same day, President Luong Cuong emphasized Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy toward Russia, particularly in the current stage of development.

Patrushev reiterated the Russian Maritime Board's support for expanding cooperation with Vietnam, focusing on maritime scientific and technical research.
