Swimmer Pham Thanh Bao successfully defended his gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke. The men’s 4x200m freestyle relay team competed brilliantly to win gold.
Athletics proved to be Vietnam’s powerhouse, winning 2 gold medals in the men's triple jump and women's 1,500m; 1 silver medal in the women's 1,500m; and 1 bronze medal in the men's 1,500m.
In martial arts, the women's Kata team excelled, surpassing the host country's athletes to win the gold medal. Ju-jitsu fighter Dang Dinh Tung continued to bring home a gold medal in the men's Ne-waza 69kg category. Martial artist Nguyen Hong Trong added another gold medal in Taekwondo for Vietnam. MMA (mixed martial arts) saw Tran Ngoc Luong and Quang Van Minh bagging 2 gold medals in the men's 60kg and 65kg weight classes.
The gymnastics team also had a strong opening day. Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien claimed gold in the pommel horse and Nguyen Thi Quynh Nhu won the silver medal in the vault event.
The same day, the women's 3x3 basketball team earned another bronze medal.
On the football field, both the Vietnamese U22 men's and women's teams achieved favorable results. Men’s team defeated U22 Malaysia 2-0, while the women's team secured a 2-0 victory over Myanmar. Both teams have advanced to the semi-finals as group winners.
As of 9:30 pm on December 11th, Vietnam ranked second in the overall medal standings with 14 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 24 bronze medals. Thailand topped the standings; Indonesia was in third place.
