The Vietnamese team secured a total of 188 points, earning two gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze medal, the Ministry of Education and Training announced on Saturday. This result placed Vietnam 9th out of 113 participating countries and territories. The top spots went to China, the US, and South Korea.
The two gold medalists are Vo Trong Khai, a 12th grader from Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An province, and Tran Minh Hoang, a 12th grader from Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted in Ha Tinh province.
This year’s performance marks a strong rise in the rankings, with Vietnam climbing from 33rd place last year to 9th.
The 66th IMO takes place from July 10 to 20, with more than 639 contestants.
