During an online UN Security Council meeting on the Middle East on Tuesday, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Vietnamese mission to the UN, shared his concerns about Israel’s plan to annex parts of the occupied West Bank. The annexation would violate international law and run counter to the long-term interests of Israel, he said.
If Israel goes ahead with the plan, it will destroy any chance of a two-state solution, or the restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East, and will exacerbate the humanitarian crisis facing the Palestinians, said Quy. He called on the international community to increase support for the Palestinian people and increase the budget for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.
