The forum gathered Foreign Ministers from more than 70 countries, including 27 member states of the European Union (EU) and countries in the Indo-Pacific region as well as representatives from a number of international organizations.
In the opening keynote speech, Foreign Minister Son affirmed Vietnam's commitment to climate change combat and strong green transformation, from the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference (COP26) in 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK, to becoming one of the first three countries to establish the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
He said Vietnam wants the EU to support developing countries, including Vietnam, to narrow the gap in finance, technology and human resource training and emphasized that the effective implementation of JETP will be a testament to this cooperation model.
Developed countries’ new regulations on green transformation, especially the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) initiated by the EU, need to create new opportunities for growth, the Vietnamese FM said and asked EU countries to support Vietnam and other developing countries in adaptation through sharing experiences and good practices and coordinating to develop carbon trading and pricing policies.
