The Party chief affirmed that Vietnam always attaches great importance to relations with the US and seeks to enhance ties on the basis of mutual respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political systems.
He said the upcoming 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam will mark a new stage of development toward peace, independence, democracy, and prosperity.
Mr. Lam emphasized the need to uphold international law and the UN Charter, and to resolve disputes through dialogue and other peaceful means.
He called on the US to continue supporting peace, stability, security, and freedom of navigation and overflight in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 UNCLOS, noting that activities in the East Sea (South China Sea) should contribute to this shared objective.
Ambassador Knapper congratulated Vietnam on its achievements, including sustained economic growth, improved living standards, and enhanced international standing and prestige. He affirmed that, in whatever capacity, he would continue to work to nurture and advance Vietnam-US relations.
