The two leaders praised the development of bilateral ties over the past 40 years and agreed to strengthen their exchange of high-ranking delegations. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressed his hope that their countries would increase people-to-people exchanges to boost mutual understanding and further bilateral ties. He urged the two sides to develop trade and investment cooperation as a pillar of bilateral ties focusing on maritime economy, energy and tourism. He said Vietnam would facilitate the two countries’ enterprises to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The Portuguese President said his country supported Vietnam in enhancing ties with the EU and in soon completing the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the EU saying it would boost trade between Vietnam and the EU and between Vietnam and Portugal. He promised to support efforts to ensure peace and stability in the Asia Pacific region as well as security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea saying that it would benefit countries inside and outside the region.
