Vietnam pledges active, responsible ASEAN membership

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam pledges to be an active and responsible member of ASEAN, and support strongly and work closely with Malaysia throughout the latter’s ASEAN Chairmanship and in preparations for upcoming ASEAN Summits, said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during a phone talk on Monday with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

During the conversation, PM Anwar briefed on Malaysia's initiatives as ASEAN Chair to address regional challenges. These include dialoguing with relevant parties in Myanmar to extend the ceasefire and focus on post-earthquake humanitarian efforts, and promoting a unified ASEAN approach to enhancing trade and investment relations while reinforcing ASEAN's centrality in the region.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the importance of ASEAN’s leading role in resolving the Myanmar issue and called for continued solidarity and coordination in supporting Myanmar’s post-earthquake recovery through ASEAN’s existing mechanisms.

The two leaders agreed to maintain a regular exchange of information and effective coordination to deepen the Vietnam–Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and contribute to building a strong, united ASEAN.
