Vietnam, Philippines seek to strengthen strategic partnership

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and the Philippines agreed to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels and fully carry out bilateral cooperation mechanisms.

During a meeting in Hanoi on Tuesday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. emphasized the need to comprehensively review the action program to implement the strategic partnership for the 2019-2024 period, and develop another for the new period, with priority given to new and potential fields such as digital transformation, green economy, circular economy, climate change response, and energy transition.

President Marcos Jr. said that the Philippines wants to elevate its strategic partnership with Vietnam to a new height.

The leaders discussed measures to strengthen economic, trade and investment cooperation with a goal of bringing two-way trade to 10 billion USD by 2025.

They affirmed that they will continue to promote the role of the defense, security and maritime cooperation mechanism; soon resume the joint committee on sea and ocean cooperation at the deputy foreign ministerial level; improve joint patrols and search and rescue at sea; and strengthen cooperation in the fight against drug crime, cybercrime, high-tech crime, and economic crime.

The same day, the two leaders met with some outstanding businesses of Vietnam and the Philippines. PM Chinh said the Vietnamese Government is committed to creating all favorable conditions for Philippine businesses’ long-term, successful, and sustainable operation in Vietnam.
