Vietnam News Agency on Wednesday voiced objection to Chinese media’s report that 4 Chinese marine surveillance ships patrolling at the Truong Sa (Spratly archipelago) drove away Vietnamese ships on duty. The Agency said: “We refute this information. Detecting Chinese marine surveillance ships violating Vietnam’s sovereignty, Vietnam’s relevant forces carried out its duty of safeguarding our sovereignty by urging Chinese ships to leave the Spratly archipelago. Vietnam has full legal foundation and historical evidence to confirm its territorial integrity over the Paracels and Spratly archipelagos. The Chinese marine surveillance ships’ conducting the so called “patrolling activities” in Spratly islands has seriously violated Vietnam’s sovereignty and run counter to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), making the situation more complicated and harmful to regional peace and stability. We strongly oppose and urge China to stop such wrongful acts, abide by DOC and refrain from acts that make the situation in the East Sea more complicated.”
