President Thein Sein expressed his pleasure at welcoming the first Vietnamese state leader to Myanmar ever the past 10 years, adding that the visit opens new cooperation opportunities for both countries. President Thein Sein said: ‘Vietnam and Myanmar are members of ASEAN and have established long-term friendly relations. In particular, the two countries have not faced any obstacles in their relationship, which is a key foundation to boost the bilateral ties. Since 2010, Vietnam and Myanmar have prioritized cooperation in 12 areas including agriculture, industrial crops, aquaculture, finance-banking, aviation, and telecommunications. I strongly believe that we will see more achievements in economic cooperation.

In reply, President Truong Tan Sang affirmed continued cooperation and mutual support for common benefit and regional peace. He said: ‘Myanmar’s President confirms that in the future we will boost the 12 prioritized trade and investment cooperation areas. In the spirit of friendship, we will assist each other for mutual growth. Diplomatically, we vow to work closely in regional and world forums.

Afterwards a state banquet in honor of President Sang was hosted by President Thein Sein.
