At a meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with relevant ministries and sectors to propose a mechanism to resolve development conflicts and select options based on the pillars including environmental efficiency, economic efficiency and job creation capacity.
He also urged for a toolkit to support analysis and decision-making to address inter-sectoral conflict situations, a coordination mechanism for investigation and survey of marine environmental resources to serve the implementation of strategies and planning for marine economic development, a financial mechanism for investigation, and a national and local database on marine environmental resources.
According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, progress has been made after seven years of implementing the Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045. Key sectors, such as marine tourism-services, maritime economy, oil and gas development, fisheries, and renewable energy has recorded positive results.
At the meeting, representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Justice, Finance, and Industry and Trade said that the establishment of an inter-sectoral coordination mechanism is not only consistent with Vietnam's marine economic development strategy but also in line with international trends as many countries in Southeast Asia and around the world have established similar mechanisms.
