The workshop discussed recovery after the earthquake and tsunami in Japan’s eastern part and Japan’s International Cooperation Agency cooperative activities on natural disaster prevention in Vietnam. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Cao Duc Phat, said after 40 years of construction and development, Vietnam and Japan have become close friends and important strategic partners. Cooperation between the two countries has been expanded in all areas, particularly in natural disaster prevention. "We appreciate Japan’s lessons in disaster prevention. Vietnam shares its condolences with Japanese victims of the earthquake and tsunami in 2011. We respect Japanese people’s staunchness and the lessons from their reconstruction after the disaster." Japanese Ambassador Tanizaki, Head of the Organizing Board of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Year, thanked the Vietnamese government and people for material and spiritual support to Japan after the two disasters.
