Speaking at a working session between the Ministry of Construction and a National Assembly’s supervisory delegation on Monday in Hanoi, Mr. Hoan called for the addition and improvement of regulations on recycling and reusing construction solid waste, transforming waste into resources.
Vietnam currently has 83 urban wastewater treatment plants operating across 50 urban areas nationwide, with a total design capacity of 2.6 million cubic meters per day, said Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh at the session. There has been a significant shift from fossil-fueled motor vehicles to electric and green energy-powered vehicles, with a 24% increase of electric cars, he added.
The Ministry of Construction has issued two circulars outlining technical standards for measuring and assessing greenhouse gas emission reductions.
Mr. Sinh recommended that the National Assembly amend the 2020 Law on Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment work out a roadmap for phasing out fossil-fueled and polluting vehicles. This roadmap will serve as a basis for the Ministry of Construction to adopt mechanisms and policies to allocate sufficient resources for implementing new, breakthrough environmental regulations, he said.
