Vietnam hailed for its role in implementing SDGs

(VOVWORLD) -Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, said achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will entail many challenges, so people should be placed at the center of all policies, programs, and goals. Giang underscored the need to strengthen Vietnam’s legal framework and institutions.

Giang was a keynote speaker at Wednesday’s dialogue between countries, UN resident co-ordinators, and the UN Country Team (UNCT) in New York. The dialogue took place within the framework of a meeting ò the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Giang urged UN agencies and resident co-ordinators to step up collaboration to help countries boost their competitiveness and establish new partnerships, and called for stable financing for UN agencies and resident co-ordinators to help them fulfill their functions.

Pauline Tamesis, resident UN coordinator in Vietnam, joined with numerous country representatives in applauding Vietnam’s performance in achieving its SDGs and the Vietnamese Government’s leadership in that effort.

Vietnam can be viewed as a success story in co-ordinating with the UN, particularly in develoment support and finance mobilization, said Tamesis.
