Vietnam goes 69 days without a new COVID-19 case

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has gone 69 days with no new COVID-19 infections, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control. 

Of 349 cases, 209 were infected outside Vietnam and quarantined on arrival. So far 329 patients, 94.3 percent of the total, have fully recovered and no fatalities have been reported. The 20 remaining patients are in stable condition.

COVID-19 cases now total 9.35 million globally, with deaths exceeding 480,000, according to worldometers.info.

New cases and deaths has been rising sharply in Iran and India.

The death toll has surpassed 100,000 in Latin America. Brazil is now second only to the US in coronavirus deaths.

European countries have begun to ease restrictions and gradually reopen their borders.

South Africa - the African country with the most confirmed COVID-19 infections - announced Tuesday that it will begin clinical trials this week for a novel coronavirus vaccine.
