Vietnam Fatherland Front President pays New Year visit to Tra Vinh

(VOVworld) – President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan visited to the Khmer retired cadres and revolutionaries and the Association for Patriotic Buddhist Monks’ Solidarity in Tra Vinh province on Sunday on the occasion of the Chol Chnam Thmay New Year festival of the Khmer people.

(VOVworld) – President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan visited to the Khmer retired cadres and revolutionaries and the Association for Patriotic Buddhist Monks’ Solidarity in Tra Vinh province on Sunday on the occasion of the Chol Chnam Thmay New Year festival of the Khmer people.

Mr. Nhan visited the families of revolutionary veteran Lam Phu and of hero of the armed forces Son Cang. At a meeting with the Association for Patriotic Buddhist Monks’ Solidarity, the Front’s President Nguyen Thien Nhan said: “I honor the contributions Buddhist dignitaries for the development of Buddhism, national unity, and poverty reduction. On the occasion of the Chol Chnam Thmay New Year festival, I wish the superior Buddhist monk and head of the executive board of the provincial Buddhist Sangha good health, peace, and happiness.”

31% of Tra Vinh’s population is people of Khmer ethnic group. About 3,5000 Khmer monks are studying at local 142 Buddhist pagodas.
