(VOVworld) - The 6th Congress of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union has concluded after four working days, launching its new Central Executive Committee for the term until 2018. Nguyen Quoc Cuong was reelected President accompanied by four new vice presidents. The congress’ resolution was approved with a focus on continuing a project to improve the role and responsibility of the Vietnam Farmers Union in the development of agriculture, new rural areas, and the Vietnamese farmer class until 2020.

Newly-elected President of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union Nguyen Quoc Cuong said that during the next tenure, the union will advise the Party and State in policy-making so as to help farmers escape poverty and become more prosperous:“The Vietnam Farmers’ Union considers becoming part of the campaign to build new rural areas as one of our key tasks. The union has proactively given advice to party committees and administrations and been involved in the campaign from planning to practical activity. We realize that the role of the Farmers’ Union has been acknowledged. I hope that in the near future the union will contribute more to developing these new rural areas”.
Cuong stressed the need for incentives to boost farmers’ production and provide vocational training for rural laborers as part of the goal of training one million rural laborers each year.
