(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s seafood sector has set a target of earning 9 billion USD from exports this year, according to a conference of members of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) on Monday in Ho Chi Minh City.

Since the beginning of this year, exports of key aqua products such as shrimp and tra fish has declined 30%. Truong Dinh Hoe, VASEP’s Secretary General, said businesses have been working hard to maintain key export markets.

“If exports to the US in June can maintain the growth rate recorded in May, we hope the situation will improve in the coming months. We will make full use of the seafood harvesting season in August and September,” said Hoe.

According to VASEP, Vietnam’s seafood sector is expected to enjoy more opportunities in the period of 2022-2025 brought about by new generation Free Trade Agreements.
