Vietnam expands rice export market

(VOVworld) – The Ministry of Industry and Trade organized a meeting on expanding Vietnam’s rice export market. Vietnamese trade counselors, enterprises, and business associations attended the event.
Vietnam exported 6.6 million tons of rice to earn 2.8 billion USD, an increase of 4% in volume but 4.5% reduction in revenue compared to that in 2014.
Due to El Nino impacts, salt intrusion, and strong competition from other rice exporters, Vietnam’s rice production and export are predicted various difficulties.
Vietnam will expand market to Europe, the US, Japan, and South Korea while improving rice quality and building trademark.
In his address, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh said: “In their trade promotion activities, enterprises need State agencies, especially the Food Association, to help them with market directions and market expansion. The Ministry of Industry and Trade needs to reform trade promotion activities and have special support for farm produce and rice to help enterprises meet market demands”.
