The Vietnam team will meet a strong opponent in the second qualifying round, probably Japan, South Korea, Iran, Australia, Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, or China. The other three opponents are the same or weaker than Vietnam. Experts say Vietnam has a good chance of advancing to the final round of the 2022 World Cup.

The draw for the second round is scheduled to be held on 17 July 2019 in Doha, Qatar.
