(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam recorded a trade surplus of more than 3 billion USD in the first four months of this year despite negative impacts caused by COVID-19, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

During the Jan-April period, Vietnam’s export turnover reached nearly 83 billion USD, up 4.7%. Commodities with strong growth in export value included machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts; computers, electronic products and components; wood products, footwear, and telephone components.

The US remained the largest market for Vietnamese exports, with a 20-billion-USD turnover, surging more than 13%. The ministry said after positive growth in the first quarter, Vietnam's trade activities in April began to be strongly affected by the pandemic. Export turnover last month dropped more than 18% from the previous month.
