(VOVworld)- Vietnam on Tuesday was elected by the UN General Assembly at its 68th session one of 14 new members of its Human Rights Council. Vietnam got 184 votes out of 192, the most among the candidates, a recognition by the international community of Vietnam’s recent achievements in promoting civil, political, economic, cultural, social, and religious rights. This also reflects Vietnam’s increasing prestige in the international arena.
During the three year tenure 2014-2016, Vietnam is expected to directly contribute, in a constructive and responsible manner, to the joint effort of the international community to accelerate and defend human rights globally.  Being a member of the UN Human Right Council also offers Vietnam a great opportunity to learn from other nations how to ensure the rights of its citizens.
